DVD/Blu-ray Release: Take Shelter

February 14, 2012

Today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released Take Shelter on Blu-ray & DVD.  The life Curtis (Michael Shannon) shares with his wife (Jessica Chastain) and their young deaf daughter is shattered when he begins having nightmares of an apocalyptic storm.  Channelling his crippling anxiety into the obsessive building of an underground shelter, he struggles with the seperation between his nightmares and reality while trying desperately to protect those around him.

Released in theatres on October 14th and deserving of an honorable mention as one of the best movies of 2011, this is a fascinating and often terrifying psychological drama that builds with a lot of tension to an unforgettable climax.  Anchored by a brilliant performance from Michael Shannon and excellent supporting work from Jessica Chastain, Take Shelter is an immensely powerful film that is worth seeking out.

The Blu-ray includes commentary with writer-director Jeff Nichols and Michael Shannon, deleted scenes and two featurettes.

Take Shelter is 121 minutes and rated 14A.
