DVD/Blu-ray Release: John Carter

June 5, 2012

Today, Walt Disney Home Entertainment is releasing the science fiction film John Carter on Blu-ray & DVD.  Directed by Pixar’s Andrew Stanton, the martian adventure was a critical and financial disappointment, but fans of the film will still find a few cool scenes and some entertaining moments that play well in high definition.  We reviewed John Carter when it opened in theatres on March 9th, our overall consensus was:

Andrew Stanton’s John Carter could have used some editing and better character development, but fans of the classic books by Edgar Rice Burroughs still might find the cool visuals of this sci-fi film to be worth the price of admission.  **1/4 (Out of 4)

The Blu-ray includes commentary, “behind the scenes” looks at all aspects of the extensive production, deleted scenes, a blooper reel and a featurette on the lasting legacy of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ writing.

John Carter is 132 minutes and rated PG.
