The Documentary “I Am Breathing” Screens Today for Charity

June 21, 2013

I Am Breathing PosterWe just wanted to let our readers know that the documentary I Am Breathing is being shown around the world this evening as part of Global Screening Day, to raise awareness of finding a cure for ALS and Motor Neurone Disease.  The film plays at 6:45 PM at The Bloor Hot Docs Cinema in Toronto, with a portion of the proceeds from ticket sales being donated to ALS Canada.  The two other Canadian screenings are happening at the Globe Cinema in Calgary and at the Vancity Theatre in Vancouver.

Directed by Emma Davie and Morag McKinnon, I Am Breathing follows the last few months in the life of Neil Platt, a young father in Scotland dying of Motor Neurone Disease.  As he becomes increasingly paralyzed and recounts his experiences on a blog, he struggles with how to leave behind memories of himself for his wife and their baby son.  The film was created to be a part of his legacy so that his family could remember him.

With the look and feel of a personal home movie, I Am Breathing is a very sad documentary that raises awareness of finding a cure for this serious disease, and proceeds from the Toronto screening are going to a worthy cause.  KinoSmith is distributing the film in Canada, which premiered at Hot Docs last month, and you can get more information about the story and the special screenings happening today right here.
