Blu-ray Release: The Past

April 1, 2014

The Past Blu-ray Cover

Last week, Sony Pictures Classics released The Past on Blu-ray. When the kind Ahmad (Ali Mosaffa) returns from Iran to finalize the divorce from his wife Marie (Bérénice Bejo) in France, he finds her living with Samir (Tahar Rahim) and his young son (Elyes Aguis), who’s mother is in a coma, a tragedy that has a profound affect on everyone, including Marie’s teenaged daughter Lucie (Pauline Burlet).

Directed by Asghar Farhadi, who masterfully explored similar themes in his Oscar-winning A Separation, The Past is another remarkably acted and brilliantly written film that quietly compels us with the secrets buried beneath the surface of a seemingly ordinary family. As we piece together the truth alongside the characters, I was left captivated by the film, which ends with a haunting final scene.

The Blu-ray combo pack includes commentary and a Q&A with Asghar Farhadi, as well as a “making of” featurette and a regular DVD of the film.

The Past is 130 minutes and rated PG.
