Blu-ray Release: Need for Speed

Need for Speed Blu-ray

Today, Touchstone Pictures is releasing Need for Speed on Blu-ray.  After a street race between Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul) and his wealthy rival Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper) ends in tragedy, Tobey is framed and left to take the fall.  Released from prison with revenge on his mind, Tobey is determined to compete against Dino at a famed cross country race, with help from the rich Julia Maddon (Imogen Poots).

Director Scott Waugh only used practical special effects, and the car chases in Need for Speed are often cool.  Now if even half as much effort had been put into the plot, then maybe the film would have truly risen above its video game origins.  But the intentions seem sincere, and if all you’re looking for are cool car stunts and cheap thrills, then Need for Speed modestly delivers, just don’t expect much feeling behind the muscle.  You can read my full review right here.

The Blu-ray includes commentary with Scott Waugh and Aaron Paul, deleted scenes, outtakes and several behind the scenes featurettes.

Need for Speed is 131 minutes and rated PG.
