Blu-ray Release: Transformers: Age of Extinction

October 7, 2014

Age of Extinction Blu-ray

Last week, Paramount released this summer’s blockbuster Transformers: Age of Extinction on Blu-ray.  When struggling inventor Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his teen daughter Tessa (Nicola Peltz) purchase a broken down truck that turns out to be Autobot leader Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen), the ongoing war with the Decepticons is reignited, and they find themselves on the run.

Although not quite as bad as the second film Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Age of Extinction is still pretty junky stuff, and a step down from the first and third ones.  The transforming robot antics have gotten tiresome by this fourth entry in Michael Bay’s monstrous franchise, and the film is more exhausting than entertaining.  The screenplay is muddled and full of dated stereotypes, and the clanging action sequences feel monotonous.

But considering that this is one of the biggest box office hits of 2014, Transformers: Age of Extinction clearly has a lot of fans who are going to be happy with the crystal clear Blu-ray presentation.  This one’s for them.

The Blu-ray boasts over three hours of bonus features, including a bunch of extended featurettes on different aspects of the production.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is 165 minutes and rated PG.
