Blu-ray Release: Selma

May 5, 2015

By John Corrado

Selma Blu-rayToday, Paramount is releasing Selma on Blu-ray.  Directed by Ava DuVernay, the incredibly powerful drama follows Martin Luther King Jr.’s (David Oyelowo) historic civil rights march in 1965, putting pressure on President Lyndon B. Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) to sign the Voting Rights Act.

Although nominated for Best Picture, and deservedly winning Best Original Song for John Legend and Common’s excellent end credits track “Glory,” Selma is one of those films that should have gotten even more Oscar recognition.  This was undoubtedly one of the best and most important movies of 2014, an impeccably staged and brilliantly acted period piece that comes highly recommended.  You can read our three views of Selma right here.

The Blu-Ray includes audio commentary with Ava DuVernay and David Oyelowo, deleted and extended scenes, several featurettes and a music video for “Glory.”

Selma is 128 minutes and rated PG.
