DVD Release: Danny Collins

July 7, 2015

By John Corrado

Danny Collins DVDToday, Elevation Pictures is releasing Danny Collins on DVD, a nice surprise from earlier in the year.  Danny Collins (Al Pacino) is an aging pop star who has grown dissatisfied of his affluent life of drugs and sex, when his manager (Christopher Plummer) gives him an undelivered letter that John Lennon wrote forty years earlier, guiding him to reconnect with his estranged adult son (Bobby Cannavale).

Balancing the more heartfelt scenes with a few surprisingly solid laughs, writer-director Dan Fogelman has crafted a film that manages to be enjoyable throughout, all set to a nice selection of John Lennon songs.  It’s especially worth seeing for the uniformly excellent ensemble cast, who effortlessly carry the story every step of the way, and our three views of this worthwhile dramedy can be found right here.

The Blu-ray includes a brief “behind the scenes” featurette, and a gallery of fictitious album covers.

Danny Collins is 108 minutes and rated 14A.
