Blu-ray 3D Release: Terminator Genisys

Terminator Genisys Blu-rayToday, Paramount is releasing Terminator Genisys on Blu-ray 3D.  When human resistance army leader John Connor (Jason Clarke) sends soldier Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) back to 1984 from 2029 to help protect his mother Sarah Connor (Emilia Clarke), and stop Skynet while it’s still in its infancy as an operating system, an alternate timeline ends up being created in the war on machines.

Because Terminator Genisys tries to reboot the series, it essentially rewrites the events of the previous films, and feels kind of pointless in terms of the overall narrative.  There are some alright action scenes here for fans of robot carnage, but the messages about technology taking over are presented in heavy handed ways, and really not aided by the wooden performances and generally terrible soap opera dialogue.

Because of this, it’s no surprise that Terminator Genisys was a domestic box office flop.  This could have been a cool continuation of the series, but instead it’s a muddled mess that doesn’t really serve much purpose in terms of story or coherent plot, pailing in comparison to the original films.  The 3D effects are pretty solid, but also kind of exaggerated, which I guess fits the overall excessive nature of the film.

The Blu-ray includes nearly an hour of bonus material and “behind the scenes” featurettes.

Terminator Genisys is 125 minutes and rated 14A.
