Digital Release: Victoria

March 8, 2016

By John Corrado

VictoriaA hit on the festival circuit, the single take thriller Victoria is now available on digital platforms, including iTunes.  Director Sebastian Schipper never stopped the camera once throughout the overnight shoot, opening in a throbbing nightclub where Victoria (Laia Costa) meets the charismatic Sonne (Frederick Lau) and his gang, and becomes involved in their plans, which escalate towards a violent bank robbery and its fallout.

Although running a little long, the great camerawork alone makes Victoria worth seeing, heightening the feelings of both exhilaration and disorientation felt in the story, as the actors impressively shift from quiet moments to emotional breakdowns and tense standoffs.  This is an intriguing and exciting cinematic experiment, that will hopefully find the audiences it deserves now that it’s on demand.  My full review is right here.

Victoria is 138 minutes and rated 14A.
