Thor: Ragnarok at Fan Expo 2017

September 1, 2017

By John Corrado

Fan Expo has once again taken over the Metro Toronto Convention Centre this weekend, and the fine folks at Walt Disney Studios Canada have brought along some of the costumes and props from Marvel’s upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

The display features the actual costumes worn by the actors in the film, as well as some props like Hulk’s hammer and battle axe, which look heavy but we’re told really are not.  The six main pieces on display include costumes belonging to Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Skurge (Karl Urban), Hela (Cate Blanchett), the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson).

The detailing on them is amazing, like the mix of metal, leather and fabric used to make Skurge’s costume, and we also get equally impressive closeup looks at Thor’s helmet and swords, as well as Hela’s massive 3D-printed headdress.  Seeing them up close really gives us a sense of the amount of work that went into them, and how heavy some of them must have been for the actors to wear.  We were told that they had tubes with cold water running underneath the costumes to keep them cool in the hot Australia sun where parts of it were filmed.

This is the only chance to see these items in Canada.  Trust us, they look pretty awesome in person, and cosplayers in particular are going to have a blast getting this close to the actual costumes!  Please check out our full gallery below for a sampling of what to expect, all photos credited to Erin Corrado.  Enjoy!
